Frequently Asked Questions

Q
Is there an age limit?
A

There is no specific age limit, except for snorkeling, which is available up to age 65.

Whatever your age, please be sure to tell us in advance about any chronic illness or pain, pre-existing conditions, concerns, or pregnancy. This is essential for keeping everyone safe on the tour.

Q
Can babies join?
A

It depends on the tour and on the preparation we make together beforehand, so please feel free to contact us.

Q
I’m pregnant. Can I join?
A

Basically, we are unable to accept pregnant guests, but please contact us anyway.

Q
I can’t swim. Can I still join?
A

We use life-saving equipment such as life jackets, so there is no need to worry.

You don’t always need to swim, and capsizing rarely happens in river kayaking.

Q
I have poor eyesight. Is that a problem?
A

Contact lenses are necessary, especially for snorkeling — please bring a spare pair just in case.

A strap or band for your sunglasses is also useful.

Q
What about sunburn?
A

To avoid sunburn and injuries, we recommend covering up as much as possible with long sleeves, long tights with shorts, and a hat. Sunscreen can also run into your eyes and sting.

Chemical-based sunscreens harm water quality and marine life such as coral — and you, too. We provide a natural sunscreen for you, and we would be very happy if you used it.

Strongly scented sunscreen, cosmetics, shampoo and laundry detergent attract insects such as hornets and wasps, so please avoid using them before the tour.

Q
What is your cancellation policy?
A

A cancellation fee is charged only when you cancel for your own reasons — not when the tour is cancelled due to bad weather or conditions unsuitable for the tour you booked.

Please let us know as soon as possible if your itinerary changes.

Q
Will the tour be cancelled if it rains?
A

No — we still go out in the rain. Being in nature in the rain is not bad at all.

Yakushima is famous for its heavy rainfall, which is what makes the nature here so abundant.
Unless a heavy rain warning is issued, don’t hesitate to head outdoors.
In heavy rain, we recommend visiting waterfalls, cafés or craft workshops.

Q
What should I bring?
A

Please see “What to wear & bring”.

Gear for the activities, such as life jackets, is included in the price.

A

We will let you know by the day before the tour.

We decide the time and place based on your requests, where you are staying and your itinerary.

Q
How do I get there?
A

Pick-up and drop-off are available between Miyanoura and Onoaida.

Other areas may also be possible — we will discuss this with you.
