Our guide Sho was really great, he took us to Yakusugi Land, we shared a route with him and he was very accommodating and we were able to do everything we wanted to do in one day. We had a really lovely calm time in the forest, where he taught us about the local plant species as we were walking by them

My wife and I book booked a full-day shiratani unsuikyo tour, as well as a half-day anbo river kayaking experience.

Sho's experience and depth of knowledge of the areas that we went to allowed us to learn much, and needless to say, we had an extremely wonderful time as well.

⭐ Wonderful Kayak Tour on Yakushima with Sho! ⭐

The three of us had an absolutely fantastic kayak tour on the Anbo River with Sho from One Drop Yakushima. It was an unforgettable experience, as we were completely alone on the river and could fully absorb the breathtaking nature.

Sho is a super nice and very friendly guide who also gave us enough freedom to paddle around on the river and enjoy everything at our own pace. The equipment and kayaks were top-notch – everything was perfect, even for us as first-timers.

A special highlight was the tea break with cookies on the riverside, where we had a nice and relaxed chat about all sorts of things.

We can highly recommend the tour with Sho to everyone! A must-do for any visit to Yakushima.

I spent two wonderful days exploring Yakushima with Shouhei. He took me to beautiful places and shared so much interesting information about the island’s nature. We were lucky enough to book a tour with One Drop in April 2025. It was truly the highlight of our holiday in Japan. We did the full day hike and morning kayak, over two days and the experience was nothing short of sensational.

Our guide, Sho is fluent in English and Japanese. He is highly professional, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about nature, history and culture in Yakushima.

Kayaking down Anbou River in the morning was magical—a memory my husband and I will cherish forever. The experience and scenery was so incredible, it literally brought me to tears. And the view from the top of Tachu Dake was breath taking. We cannot recommend One Drop enough, and a visit to Yakushima is must-do experience when visiting Japan.

Our two days with Sho on Yakushima were absolutely magical!

On our first day, Sho provided an island tour, and we drove around the island seeing numerous waterfalls, beaches, cultural sites, cafes, restaurants and shops (a particular highlight was the tofu specialty shop on the northwest side of the island and some cafes near Anbo). Sho is very knowledgeable about the island, its wildlife and its culture, and we learned an incredible amount over the course of the day.

On our second day, when the weather was perfect, Sho picked us up early and we set off on the Tachudake hike. Sho arranged bento lunches that we were able to pack in our backpacks given the length of the hike, and we had an amazing time hiking through the beautiful forests of Yakushima up to the rock formation peak of Tachudake (Sho had recommended this hike because it was less crowded than some of the other hikes one hears about when researching Yakushima). We had the top of the rock formation to ourselves, and the view was spectacular (not to mention that Sho then ably served as an amazing photographer for our engagement at the top of the mountain).

Separately, Sho's responsiveness and communication throughout the planning process were top notch (including assisting in planning the surprise engagement!). Originally, we had planned to hike for our first day and then do either a second hike, kayak or island tour for our second day. As the dates approached, however, Sho was in constant contact with us to adjust our schedule (Sho suggested adjustments based on the weather on the dates we were there, and we ultimately elected to do a driving tour rather than a kayak on the first day because of the forecast).

Finally, it is also worth noting that if you are not fluent in Japanese, it is also helpful to have a guide just for traveling around the island (especially if you have limited time on the island). The public transportation options are far less frequent than on the mainland, and while I am generally comfortable driving rental cars in other countries, some of the roads in Yakushima are particularly narrow and/or treacherous (and with less signage than on the mainland). Sho had a very comfortable van, and we were able to cover far more ground/stops on our island tour than if we had been driving ourselves or taking the bus.

All in all, our trip to Yakushima was exceptional in part because of Sho's attentiveness, kindness and planning, and I highly recommend booking Sho for your hikes or tours if you are travelling to Yakushima!

In October I had two great fulldays with Sho as my guide. We did both hiking, kayaking, and driving around the island, including a stop at a very nice little tea farm.

Since I have sea kayaking experience from before, Sho adapted the trip so we could go on a slightly longer sea kayaking trip than usual. I was lucky and saw a few sea turtles from the kayak. Really great experience.

Sho has a lot of knowledge about the nature on the island, and is also very fun to talk to. He knows good places to hike / have a break to avoid the big crowds.

I really recommend One Drop kayak for both hiking and kayaking tours!
